The Green Machine

The Green Machine tells the story of Jonathan Morton (Matt Folker) and Cecily Fairyskate (Jen Friedman) and their adventure to save the town of Greenville. While reading the town’s paper, Jonathan and Cecily begin to suspect that a magine, a so-called “magic engine,” is behind a series of mysterious occurrences in Greenville. After journeying to Greenville to investigate, they discover that tragedy has befallen the town in the form of the Rainbow Demon and the Green Machine.

Today Was Painted Thin

I recorded Today Was Painted Thin on the 4-track in Essex sometime around April of 2003. As with most efforts that I myself “recorded and mastered” without Tim, the quality is pretty poor. I always liked the song though and wanted to record it again with people who could actually play instruments, rather than bang them (which is typically my approach to playing instruments). However, like the Lesternomicon, this might be as good as it ever gets.

Spoon Test Factory

Spoon Test Factory (2006) is a short film about Marie, played by Beth Gillin, and Geoff, played by Brian Egendorf (MainFragger), who work in a factory where spoons are tested.

The idea behind the film was to shoot something that was visual and not dialogue-driven. I also wanted to write a script but not actually give the actors a copy of the screenplay. So while significant events in the film are structured, much of what happens on the screen was worked out in rehearsal through solutions the actors arrived at by improvisation. The script was written in Celtx.

The final point that bears mentioning is that Tim and I met Beth, Brian, and Andrew Salerno, the film’s director of photography, at the Philadelphia Filmmakers, Actors, & Screenwriters Syndicate, which is held at Katseye Studio in Philadelphia, PA.

Night Caller

Here’s another tasty tune for your enjoyment. Night Caller started out as just one song. During the writing of the lyrics, the idea of a sequel came up and for some reason we thought it sounded like a good idea. For reasons lost in the mists of time, that good idea some how became a great idea, and it was decided that we would write 6, no 10, NO 12 SONGS! in the same story arc.

Night Caller was still the first one and most likely the best. I think in the final count, we recorded 3 songs and had ‘rough’ recordings for 3 more. They might eventually make their appearance.

Tears for Phil Collins

I finally purchased a decent set of monitors and the Logic Pro 7.2 upgrade. While playing around with the new software, I figured it was time to start putting up some of the other songs that Mike and I have recorded in the past 2 years. I think this was one of the first serious ones we did here in NJ. It’s called “Tears for Phil Collins.” I’m sure Mike will explain some more about it.

Lilliput

Lilliput is a very short DV film about the Lilliput robot. Manufactured in the 1940s, the Lilliput robot is believed to be the first mass-produced robot toy in Japan. The Lilliput in Lilliput is a replica and yes, he/she/it does have a hard time walking. That, however, is the Lilliput’s charm.

Besides being about a Lilliput, the idea behind shooting the film was to try some lighting techniques. Boo-beep-boop.
