News

Just thought I’d post a quick note to let everyone know that Dash Eight won the first round of the WRNR “Land Your Band” competition. The grand prize is a trip to Epic Records in N.Y.C. to meet with some guys about the small matter of a record contract. Big ups to Thom for coming out and representing the C.O.T. crew. Next round is in August- I’ll keep everyone updated. 🙂

Words, stuff, other stuff.

when in maryland--
--a world of lawns
and the requisite mowers
fields of soy
and sky--

--don't forget to look for me
i'll be the one tending to his lawn
eating crabcakes
reading the paper under a tree
and...

Man fuck that. I won't be doing any of that shit.

w00t.

Dash Eight have emerged from a field of almost 40 bands as the victor of Salisbury University’s “Battle of the Bands”. As a result, they will be playing Salisbury’s annual Field Day along with Viv, The Starting Line and Talib Kweli. (Talib Kweli!!!!!) Check ’em out at the ever-evolving dasheight.com

Also, be sure to check out Hordak’s reccomended pick of the week, Derby Lane. These guys are destined for big things, and I feel lucky to be a friend of such a promising bunch of musicians. I hope these guys get everything they deserve– which is a lot. Pop fans, be sure to dig into “Guess What Girls”. Hooks a mile wide.

More Lists

Bear said to put it back, so here it is:

I be lovin’ me some lists. Especially the music ones. So, after listing your top 10 current picks, I ask: what are your top 20 albums of ALL TIME????? (Imagine the booming echo) These should be the most important albums in your life, not just a list of what you believe to be the most important albums in the history of rock. And in no particular order, of course. For me? Check it:

  1. Radiohead – OK Computer/Kid A/Hail to the Thief (I know, I’m cheating.)
  2. U2 – Achtung Baby/Rattle and Hum/Wide Awake in America (Still cheating…)
  3. Pixies – Doolittle/Trompe le Monde/Surfer Rosa (Will continue to cheat. Get over it.)
  4. Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots/Soft Bulletin
  5. Toad the Wet Sprocket – Dulcinea
  6. Whiskeytown – Pneumonia
  7. Chris Whitley – Dirt Floor/Terra Incognita
  8. Wilco – Summerteeth/Being There/Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
  9. Replacements – Pleased to Meet Me/Tim/All Shook Down
  10. Elliot Smith – Figure 8/XO
  11. Smiths – Louder Than Bombs/Peel Sessions/The Queen is Dead/Strangeways, Here We Come
  12. Old Dirty Bastard – N***A PLEASE/Return to the 36 Chambers, the 37th Chamber
  13. Beatles – White Album/Revolver/Sgt. Pepper
  14. Depeche Mode – Violator
  15. Badly Drawn Boy – The Hour of Bewilderbeast
  16. Oasis – Definitely Maybe
  17. John Frusciante – To Record Only Water for Ten Days
  18. R.E.M. – Automatic For the People
  19. Coldplay – Parachutes/Rush of Blood to the Head
  20. Kashmir – Zitilites

Ok, so I bent the rules. A LOT. Meh.

Late Night Bullshit

i'd rather be anywhere
anywhere i can run to
anywhere that's dark
secluded

any place at all
anywhere i can count an endless string of worries
anywhere you aren't
and they
aren't

i can make it all

STOP.

(i can't...)

just wanted you to know
that i think about you
and in the soft glow of a computer monitor
my face looks sunken, sallow
as i rattle off this self-indulgent poetry
casting myself as the nostalgic hero
who never worries
and always feels good about things
who is perpetually 22
and everything
to you.

Sugar Rush

I swear, if I ever meet the guy who invented Hawaiian Punch, I’m gonna’ kick his ass for making me crave his sweet, sweet polynesian crack on an hourly basis. I’m sending that bitch the medical bills when I’m finally diagnosed with Diabetes.

My first post.

So, here I am. Late to the party, as per usual. Apologies.

Great gig this past weekend. Landed a resident booking. More on the horizon.

Finally free of the bruises which plagued me in the wake of the car crash. “In an interstellar buuuuuuuurst, I’m back to save the uuuuu-huuuuu-niverse.”

More news to come. For now, a warm bed beckons.

Ideas

I’ve been trying to write some music around which to frame Mike’s poem from a little further down.

These lines in particular really got to me:

“a structure
structure-less
sought where it isn’t
mown “

“Against the grass uncut as mist falls bending light over wrappers and cans round beneath the rusted bridge where a man hangs by a cable”

” maps litter the backseat taken from the center where the man speaks a history that turns in and over itself wrapping me by”

I think there’s a song in there. A really pretty/creepy song.

Also, I need to get this whole new site thing figured out so I can post the newest recordings we’ve been working on. We’ve settled on the name Dash Eight (a nod to Piedmont/Chesapeake air and the Wico./O.C. Regional airport at which Mike and I always seem to end up…) That’s right- we have a name for real this time! Website can’t be too far behind, can it? Stay tuned. For a while.
