The following three quotes are respectively from the following: Amy Taubin’s essay “Private Places” on Gus Van Sant’s film My Own Private Idaho (1991), a Laffy Taffy wrapper, and David Goodis’s novel The Burglar (1953).

Re quote #3: The irony makes me chuckle, for I find today’s New Jersey drivers absolutely terrifying.
my own private idaho…never saw it, but vaguely remember its debut and that it dealt with (at that time) controversial issues. still worth seeing?
yeah. it is worth seeing. its a little dated, very 90s. i watched one of his newer ones the other day called paranoid park, which had some interesting moments, but is ultimately a flawed film, because it is a collage of ideas that never really get enough time to breathe. Idaho is also a collage, but the separate pieces are allowed to play out.
