  1. Yum! Notice that the ad uses proper grammar with correct pronoun agreement of “each” (singular) with “his.” Today this would be rephrased to avoid the now unacceptable assumption of the universality of “his.” Since the awkward “his/her” would not be a good choice, I am guessing that the ad would lapse into technically incorrect grammar and choose “their.”

  2. You seem to take a more positive view of the poor advertising agent who developed this ad than I do. Personally his/her use of “scare quotes” tends to “stick in my craw” so to speak.

    And I wonder how much luck Campbell’s Soup Company has had in defending their trademark on the word “TV”.

  4. Down in the lower right hand corner of the advertisement it seems to say:

    “TV” and “TV Dinner” are registered trademarks of the Campbell’s Soup Company.

    Depending on when TV Dinners were first invented I could sort of see that phrase becoming a trademark. But Campbell’s holding the trademark to “TV”? Seems like that should belong to a television manufacturer or something if it’s even possible to trademark.
