The Rent is Due is another short melodica number. Like last week’s video, it features fish again.

An absolutly brilliant piece of film. Its minimalist style captures the postmodern excesses of our bourgois society. I would suggest using “Atmospheres” by Gyorgy Ligeti as the soundtrack. Bravo!
I liked the filter or whatever it was used to make it that stark monotone.
Although, the combination of black/white contrast, the frantic rushing of fish, and the moody anxious music gave me an impression less of bourgois excess, but instead suggested the social tensions and nightmare of anomie created by the propagation of racist stereotypes in modern society.
Haha, I’m not even sure what to say guys. I’m glad you watched it though 🙂
Say what you want about it, but to me, it tells of a sleepless night for both of us when Mike was up until 3:00 in the morning perfecting his melodica technique by playing this piece. I will be forever haunted by the recollection of it.
I don’t know what it was trying to SAY, but I liked how it looked and I liked how it sounded.
It sent me to sleep last night thinking of black and white fishes, which was not unpleasant. . .
mike, you’ve got some catchy motivic material there…i think you’re really starting to tap into your inner musician. remind me to show you some music by steve reich.
