Greetings from the BunkeGGGRRR!!! That’s right, I said, “GRRRR!!!” I bet you are wondering why? The pet ferret is loose again and he’s a crafty son-of-bitch. Yesterday he got into the Honey Nut Cherrios, and let me just say that His Majesty Rudolph was not in the slightest pleased. The funny thing is that no one has actually seen Jerry the Ferret anywhere ferrying about.

This has raised a couple eyebrows and led some to ask the question, is it actually Jerry???

Fact: On Tuesday our handy-man came to clean out our gutters. He expressed a keen interest in Jerry and asked if he could buy him off us. We politely explained that Jerry was the Bunker’s pet, and wasn’t for sale as such. I’m not so sure if our handy-man comprehended. I think I saw his blue pickup truck outside the office last night at around 10:30 p.m… Maybe the handy-man has a taste for Honey Nut Cheerios too…

Many moons ago I conducted an email interview with Black Affair frontman Stephen Mason. Formally a member of the now legendary Beta Band and his own solo outing King Biscuit Time, Black Affair resonates as a project distinctly Mason’s, yet a very different beast from his previous musical efforts. Since this interview was conducted, the Black Affair album, “Pleasure Pressure Point,” has been released. However, it is currently only available on import. Here’s hoping that it gets stateside distribution!

I have really enjoyed the songs you have been putting up on the Black Affair Myspace page (there have been a number of them). Can we expect an album anytime soon?

Yes! the album is done and sounds incredible. Once the business end is fixed i can put it out. Soon i hope.

I pulled out my copy of Snarfquest here the other day. It has always been one of my favorite comics. Drawn by Larry Elmore, it originally ran in Dragon (magazine). Elmore is today perhaps best known as having done the cover paintings for the original Dragonlance novels written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. This strikes me as sort of odd, because the Snarfquest comics are really fantastic.

Beyond the comic’s cult following, other role-playing oriented comics such as Knights of Dinner Table are perhaps better known. The difference between Snarfquest and Knights of the Dinner Table is Snarfquest can be understood outside of a role-playing context. And yet, for those familiar with role-playing games, the comic captures the magic of actual role-playing. As Roger E. Moore points out in the 1987 compilation of the book, “I particularly like Snarfquest because it reads like a parody of a typical fantasy role-playing game, showing how great ends come from small beginnings, with lots of weird stuff in between.”

Brian is a He-Man and the Master’s of the Universe (1983) homage we made at this year’s Protocon 3.0. The story follows Brian’s quest to retrieve the “secret thing” and is a spoof of episode MU48 “Return of Evil,” directed by Steve Clark and written by Richard Pardee. “Return to Evil” is available as part of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Season One, Vol. 2 DVD set. Back in August of 2007, Protozoic conducted an interview with Steve Barnett, the director of Mindwarp. It seems that Mindwarp is going to get screened at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas this Octorber 2! I can’t imagine what seeing Mindwarp on the big screen is like.
