I was walking by the bookstore yesterday and I saw a display set up for R. A. Salvatore’s new novel, The Orc King, which follows the adventures of Salvatore’s character Drizzt Do’Urden, the drow elf. What caught my eye was the sticker at the bottom of the book. I don’t know how well you can see it in this JPG, but take a gander.

  1. The funny thing is I’ve heard people talk of him as this familiar character they grew up with for a long time. But I don’t know if I ever actually read any of the Drizzt stories.

  2. I read the main series, The Icewindale Trilogy and then the Legacy of the Drow series. I remember liking them a lot when I read them. I enjoyed The Icewindale Trilogy more because it was the first and it didn’t focus solely on Drizzt. It focuses on a party of interesting characters, and Drizzt, much like Wolverine, feels a little better balanced surrounded by others. I have no idea how well the books hold up though… I re-read Dragons of Autumn Twilight, by Weis and Hickman a couple years ago and I was really dissapointed. I loved that book when I was a kid, but in the experience of re-reading it I discovered it was pretty pulpy, in a bad way, not in a good way. If there have been any of the D&D series I’ve been tempted to return to since it is the early Salvatore stuff especially The Icewindale Trilogy (as The Orc King proves, Salvatore kept writing the Drizzt books, but after those 2 initial series he took time off to write other things and by the time he returned to his Drizzt-mode, I wasn’t reading him as much as I was). The first book in The Icewindale Trilogy is The Crystal Shard if you are interested.

  3. Hey I was wondering does anyone know the proper time line for the Drizzt books. I’m talking the storyline. Which or der they go according to the story. I have read most of them but, i just wanted to know for sure which order they take place. Also does the WAR OF THE SPIDER QUEEN tie into the life of Drizzt anywhere? I love the Drizzt series it is jsut the time-line that kind of messes me all up. I mean with all the side series that come with it like SELLSWORD.
